Academician Sultan Tuleukhanov Becomes the Winner of the “Best University Lecturer of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 2025” Competition

Professor of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sultan Tuleukhanovich Tuleukhanov, has become the winner of the national competition “Best University Lecturer of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 2025.”

The competition is aimed at evaluating the achievements of university faculty members in research, teaching methodology, and pedagogical activities. The conferment of this prestigious title and grant recognizes Professor Tuleukhanov’s many years of dedicated service and outstanding contribution to the development of higher education and science.

Sultan Tuleukhanovich has completed all stages of his professional career at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, beginning in 1968 as a student (1968–1973). Over the years, he has served as a research trainee (1973–1975), postgraduate student (1975–1978), junior research fellow (1978–1982), senior research fellow (1982–1983), senior lecturer (1983–1986), associate professor (1986–1999), and professor (since 1999). He also held key administrative positions, including Deputy Dean for Academic and Methodological Affairs (1989–1991), Vice-Rector for Student Affairs (1991–1993), founding Director of the Research Institute of Biology and Biotechnology Problems (1993–2001), Director of the Institute for Advanced Training of University Teachers of the Republic of Kazakhstan at KazNU (2002–2010), and Head of the Department of Human and Animal Physiology and Biophysics, as well as the Department of Biophysics and Biomedicine (1999–2020). He currently continues his academic and research activities as a Professor-Researcher at the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience.

Professor Tuleukhanov is one of the founders of the national scientific school in the fields of biophysics, chronobiology, and biomedicine. He is a distinguished scientist conducting fundamental research in biology and medicine.

His scientific works are widely recognized in the fields of biophysics, biomedicine, chronobiology, and chronomedicine. Under his supervision, nearly one hundred master’s graduates, 12 Candidates of Sciences, and 8 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) have been trained. The results of his research have been published in international peer-reviewed journals with high impact factors.

Professor Tuleukhanov’s contributions to science and higher education have been highly recognized at both the university and national levels. He has been awarded the commemorative badge “10 Years of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2005), the title “Best Lecturer of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University” (2008), and twice the title and medal “Best University Lecturer of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2008, 2014). He is a five-time recipient of the State Scientific Scholarship for Scientists and Specialists Who Have Made an Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Science and Technology (2007–2008, 2008–2009, 2011–2012, 2014, 2020). He has also been awarded the “75th Anniversary of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University” Medal (2009), the Akhmet Baitursynov Medal (2009), the Certificate of Honor of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2009), the commemorative medal “25 Years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2016), the title and medal “Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2019), the Silver Medal “For Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University” (2021), the badge “Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2022), and the Order of “Qurmet” (2024).
