18 february, 2026

On February 18, 2026, the student discussion club hosted a meeting with Kerstin Krellenberg, professor and head of the Urban Studies working group at the University of Vienna's Department of Geography and Regional Studies, on the topic of "Inter- and Transdisciplinary Approaches and Methods for Researching and Teaching Transformation in the Field of Sustainable Urban Development." The event was part of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 11, "Sustainable Cities and Urban Spaces." During the guest lecture, students learned about cutting-edge approaches and principles for research in urban studies—the discipline that studies cities and urban spaces.
Students, faculty, and the guest lecturer engaged in a fruitful discussion at the intersection of scientific approaches from political science, geography, and urban studies, as well as personal experiences as residents and users of urban space. They exchanged ideas, experiences, and examples from Kazakhstani and European practice, laying the foundation for further collaboration.
