On February 24, 2026, G.S. Makarova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages organized a round table dedicated to the analysis of the treatise “The Virtuous City” by the great philosopher Al-Farabi within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal No. 9: “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.”

           First-year students of the Faculty of Law, as well as students from Turkey, Turkmenistan, China, and Nigeria and Afghanistan studying in various academic programs, took part in the round table discussion. The students explained the main reasons why Al-Farabi was called the “Second Teacher” after Aristotle — namely, his deep devotion to science and education. In addition, the participants discussed his rich scientific and philosophical legacy, which includes about 150 treatises, and actively engaged in the discussion.

        During the event, students, in addition to demonstrating their (songs, poems, and melodies), created a live image of Al-Farabi (using AI) and, in an interactive format, explained to the thinker himself in Kazakh and English the 12 qualities and principles that should be found in the leader of a "good city."

       The main purpose of the round table is to promote the ideas and philosophical views of the great thinker Al-Farabi, aimed at developing students’ humanistic, cognitive, and independent personal abilities, as well as fostering their spiritual and moral qualities and educational values.

Students exchanged views on the following issues:

• An analysis of the ideas presented in Al-Farabi’s treatise “The Virtuous City” concerning the construction of a virtuous society, wise governance, and the role of science and education;

• An explanation of the dependence of industrialization and innovative development on human capital, spiritual culture, and social responsibility;

• The formation of future lawyers’ legal awareness, social responsibility, and active civic position;

• Strengthening the values of intercultural dialogue and cooperation within a multinational academic environment.

This event contributes to strengthening students’ value orientations, emphasizing the importance of adhering to ethical standards in professional practice, developing critical thinking and debate skills, as well as enhancing their social responsibility and civic engagement.

Today’s student is tomorrow’s public leader and the bright future of our country. Therefore, alongside academic knowledge, it is essential to instill in students wisdom and spiritual-moral values aimed at building a virtuous society, and to educate a progressive, conscientious generation — this is the key to our nation’s dynamic development and prosperity.

 The event carried significant educational and moral value, aiming to foster students’ intellectual curiosity, personal autonomy, and virtuous character, as well as to develop their spiritual and ethical qualities.
