Scientific and Methodological Seminar for Young Researchers

7 march, 2026

On March 7, at the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science, a scientific-methodological seminar titled "Methods of Researching Classical Islamic Sources" was held for Master's students. The event took place within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal "Quality Education" and the project AP22686474 "Anthology of Arabic-language sources of thinkers of the Kazakh steppe in world archives". Speaker: PhD, Associate Professor Azamat Shutbayevich Zhamashev.

A significant part of the seminar for students of the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies focused on the historical development of ilm al-tabaqat (biographical layers). The discussion covered the evolution of this field from the 9th century to later lexicographical and bibliographic traditions in the Islamic world. Special attention was paid to the heritage of scholars from the Kazakh steppe. Key discussed works included: Qurbangali Khalidi’s "Islamic Biographical Dictionary of the Eastern Kazakh Steppe"; Saduakas Gylmani’s "Biographies of Scholars of Our Time."

The contributions of renowned scholars such as A. Derbisali and A. Mashani in integrating thinkers from the Otyrar, Taraz, and Turkestan regions into the global scientific discourse were highlighted. At the conclusion of the seminar, students were introduced to modern digital resources designed for working with classical texts and manuscripts. This initiative serves as a vital step toward enhancing the expertise of young researchers and elevating the quality of domestic science.
