This academic forum was organized on the basis of Sustainable Development Goal 17 – partnerships for the goals.

On March 18, 2026, the A.H. Margulan Institute of Archaeology, together with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held the traditional international scientific-practical conference “Margulan Readings – 2026”.

Since 1989, the “Margulan Readings” have been one of the most authoritative platforms for discussing pressing issues in Kazakhstani archaeology. The forum provides an opportunity to present new results of archaeological research, exchange scientific experience, and strengthen international cooperation.

The conference discussed the results of field archaeological research conducted in 2025 in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries. Special attention was given to interdisciplinary studies, including paleoanthropology, archaeometallurgy, archaeozoology, archaeobotany, the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and artificial intelligence technologies, as well as issues of conservation, restoration, and reconstruction of archaeological monuments.

This year, more than 100 scholars and researchers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, the United Kingdom, the USA, France, Belarus, and Azerbaijan participated both offline and online, presenting reports on current issues in archaeology. The conference lasted two days and included sectional sessions.
