Artificial intelligence – the mechanism of the country's development
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the main driving forces of World Development today. In 2025, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his address identified the development of artificial intelligence technologies as a strategic priority of the country, emphasizing the role of this industry in modernizing the economy, science and society. The head of state noted that the digital transformation will affect all spheres and set specific tasks. In this direction, the Faculty of Information Technology and artificial intelligence of the university conducts systematic and purposeful work.
In 2025, our team achieved a number of successes. The faculty actively carried out activities in the fields of education, research, and public practice. The year was rich in innovative projects and startup initiatives. A number of important events were organized in the areas of ecology, digital technologies, data processing, and the application of artificial intelligence.
At the initiative of the faculty, the 10th International Scientific Conference “Mathematics, Mechanics and Information Technologies,” the 18th International Conference Parallel Computing Technologies (PaCT-2025), as well as the CSAM-2025 International Conference held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University were conducted at a high level. These events provided an opportunity for domestic and foreign scientists to exchange experience.
Educational programs and research projects for faculty students and teachers were continuously updated. Throughout the year, specialized seminars and master classes were organized, where the practical application of artificial intelligence, modern tools, and technologies were widely discussed. In addition, meetings with representatives of leading IT companies were held, with a focus on shaping students’ professional orientation.
In October, the “Student AI STARTUP” competition, held within the framework of AI WEEK 2025, became one of the faculty’s successful projects. This event was aimed at supporting student ideas and technological solutions in the field of artificial intelligence. The faculty leadership emphasized the importance of engaging youth in digital transformation and supporting high-tech projects.
In November, within the framework of the ecological youth forum “Farabi GreenCampus: Clean University,” the faculty successfully held the startup competition “AI and Green Future” and a video contest. The main goal of the competition was to combine artificial intelligence with environmental initiatives and support innovative ideas of young researchers. Participating teams presented innovative projects aimed at environmental protection and efficient use of resources. These initiatives demonstrated the importance of increasing environmental responsibility and digital literacy.
Faculty teachers and students also showed high results in national and international competitions. In particular, the faculty team won 1st place at the republican hackathon “AI-Sana Shakarim Solveathon: AI & Agriculture-2025,” took 2nd place in the CTF category at IT-FEST 2025, and also qualified for the final of the ICPC 2025 International Programming Olympiad.
Faculty scientists developed the “Zhurek AI” platform for early detection of cardiovascular diseases, and doctoral student, young scientist Saltanat Baipakbayeva, whose scientific articles were published in the Scopus database, was awarded for her research in science and education. These achievements clearly demonstrate the growing scientific potential of higher education institutions.
The outgoing year was full of new milestones and important initiatives for the faculty. The university continues to introduce innovations in the IT field into the educational process and to train highly qualified specialists in artificial intelligence. The achievements of 2025 will give further impetus to strengthening education and scientific research in line with the country’s strategic goals.
