Korean studies in Central Asia and Digital humanitarianism in Korea

At the Department of Far East of Al-Farabi KazNU was held the international conference "Korean studies in Central Asia and Digital humanitarianism in Korea" in cooperation with Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

Within the conference actual issues and main problems of Korean studies in Central Asia were discussed, experience and results of scientific researches of experts and scientists in the sphere of a digital humanitarianism as one of the modern areas of the humanities were highlighted. This conference became a platform for knowledge and experience exchange between experts of Korean studies and digital humanitarianism. The use of digital technologies in the development of Korean studies and other humanities today acquires more relevance, and the range of their use is becoming broader. The main objective of the conference was the joint development of common methods of application of scientific digital tools in the development of Korean studies and the humanities in general, and to discuss the prospects for its development. Also, both parties had agreed to continue the work of this conference on a high level in the mid of 2017.

The Hankuk University of Foreign Studies is one of the stable and strategic partners of KazNU with whom there is a Memorandum of cooperation since 1995. Within the framework of the MOU not only the exchange programs of students and faculty are carried out on a parity basis, but also the KazNU is a key participant in a number of research projects, one of which is the self-titled project "Korean Studies in Central Asia and the digital humanities in Korea”.  

At the conference more than 40 participants from the Republic of Korea and Central Asia, including the expert group of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and scientists from leading universities of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have participated. 

The papers and reports of the conference were published in conference proceedings which are indexed in Kazakhstan and the international scientific databases.
