Akim of Almaty Bakytzhan Sagintayev has met with students of the city at Al-Farabi KazNU.
The head of the city is a graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy and Economics of KazNU. «It is a great honor for me to speak at my home University, which celebrates its 85th anniversary. Here I had studied, made friends. It gave me not only knowledge, but also shaped my life principles and beliefs, launched my professional career», - said Bakytzhan Sagintayev in his welcoming speech.
During the meeting, the Akim of Almaty told students about how he sees the future of the metropolis and presented the draft of the Long-term Development Strategy «Almaty - 2050».
«Almaty in the future is a city of a new generation of professionals, scientists, managers and businessmen. And it is you, today's students, who are our invaluable human capital. You can keep Almaty green, with your successes and achievements you will help make it a city of equal opportunities, a city without outskirts», - said the Akim.
It was highlighted that the project consists of a number of strategic priorities. This is the transformation of Almaty into a global «smart» city and the implementation of the task of entering the top 100 best cities in the world in terms of quality of life.
«The city should enter the alpha group, becoming a global hub of international communications, the main center of business and event tourism in the Central Asian space. For this, it is necessary to think broadly, be proactive, and apply the best practices for resolving emerging problems», - noted Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
Almaty is a city without outskirts
The «New Almaty» plan was developed, the goal of which in the next five years in all areas of the city is to solve the issues of water supply, lighting, transport, and housing construction. It should be a polycentric city with unique places of attraction.
Almaty is a city for everyone
The metropolis will become an inclusive, person-centered, with equal opportunities for any citizen. «This is especially important because it will overcome social disunity. A big city provides many opportunities, but it can be harsh to those who find themselves in difficult life situations. Young people cannot find a job, large families do not have enough money for housing, people with disabilities cannot freely move around the city, study and work on an equal basis with others», - said the head of the metropolis.
Akim of Almaty urged students to be active in volunteer movements, to make the city kind, responsive and progressive by their example.
Almaty is a safe city
A low level of crime and technological threats will be achieved through the introduction of smart city technologies - cameras, sensors, Big Data analysis, artificial intelligence, which will quickly identify security risks and make decisions.
Until the end of 2020, it is planned to install 1 thousand cameras with an intelligent recognition system and video analytics, which will cover all population centers.
Almaty is a green city
In a few years, the city’s green fund will be radically updated, about 1 million trees planted under the «Jasyl Almaty» program, with priority on the outskirts. Akim urged everyone to take an active part in the subbotnik, which will be held on Kok-Tobe on October 12.
Almaty is the business capital
It is important to strengthen the position of the city as the business capital of the country, an economically active innovation center on the New Silk Road.
«My principled position: the key condition for transforming Almaty into an advanced economically powerful hub is the development of human capital, the use of the innovative potential of our entrepreneurs. And you, students with your good education, should now look for new opportunities, given the prospects of Almaty. To promote talented and entrepreneurial youth, we will create an ecosystem of youth entrepreneurship, innovative districts in the city, start-up sites, business incubators, coworkings», - Bakytzhan Sagintayev emphasized.
Almaty is a cultural and creative city
Almaty should become ultramodern, with an advanced lifestyle, setting fashion and standards, with a high level of education, domestic and mass culture, which will require a reload of cultural spaces, taking into account global trends.
As the Akim emphasized, the strategy of the city is not an abstract document for youth. It will show growth points, breakthrough directions and the path to personal success. The draft document will soon be submitted for public discussion through a special website and city media.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the city answered numerous youth questions. On behalf of all students of KazNU he was presented a souvenir with a University logo.
