GENERAL INTEREST IN THE CENTRAL ASIAN UNIVERSITY
Head of the Department for East Asian Studies, associate professor Natalya Yem announced al-Farabi Kazakh National University at the Research Center for Korean Community’s (RCKC) at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY)
Academic Conference “Korean Americans’ Transnational Ties to the Homeland” was organized by and took place at The Research Center for Korean Community’s (RCKC). In October 2019 The James Muyskens Conference Room at Queens College, CUNY brought together more than 50 researchers of American Korean studies. The event was sponsored by The Research Center for Korean Community’s (RCKC), Research Foundation for Korean Community (RFKC). The US Korean diaspora has been the subject of research projects presented by Portland State University, University of Washington, George Mason University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Colorado, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and many others.
On a dialogue platform, a research project of Koreans of Kazakhstan from the al-Farabi Kazakh National University on the topic "Transnational Ties with the Ethnic Homeland: The Case of Korean Women of the CIS in Marital Migration" was presented for the first time.
In addition, Yem Natalya spoke about the development of Korean studies at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, as well as about the possibilities of collaboration with scientists from the social and humanitarian fields. During the discussion, many questions were asked, American scientists showed a enormous interest in the Central Asian University, as a suddenly flashed star in the global university space.
