«Catalogue of collection of vertebrate animals of the Biological Museum of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University» - today is the most comprehensive reference guide on the current state of collections of the Museum. It contains sections on the history of the Biological Museum and its staff, descriptions of the Demonstration Hall, outdoor windows and the collection fund itself: reptiles, mammals, ornithological, oological, and osteological.
The Biological Museum of Al-Farabi KazNU has existed for more than 80 years. The richest zoological collection of animals of the world among the highest institutions of the Republic contains 7888 specimens belonging to 70 groups, 217 families and 866 species of animals. The fund has great scientific, cultural and educational and aesthetic value. It contains exhibits of rare, endangered and endemic species of animals, including the Turanian tiger, which has disappeared more than 70 years ago in its former habitat.
Kylyshbai Satimbekovich believes that, despite his considerable age, the Museum has great potential: «The Museum today receives a large number of visitors, including schoolchildren and students, undergraduates and doctoral students of Universities, foreign and honored guests. I dream of a time when, after major repairs, with the help of modern technologies, audio and video visualization, the Museum will gain a second life and will be included in the map of Almaty, as one of the significant attractions of the city».
