Among the students of the Kazakh National University there are many talented and self-motivated students with a bright future. One of them is Onlanova Zhanel, a graduate of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Department of Chinese Studies.
Zhanel was born in the Karaganda region. Her interest in foreign languages began when she was studying at school. While studying at school, she always participated in Olympiads in Russian and English languages and achieved good results. When she was in high school , she questioned herself who she wanted to be in the furute. But with no hesitation, she set goal to become an outstanding translator. Since then, her interest in foreign languages, including Chinese, has grown significantly. After graduation, she wanted to study in China, but for some family circumstances, she had to give up this thoughts, and after that so her choice fell on the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which is the only major university where Chinese language is taught.
From the first day at university, she did her best to study Chinese language. While studying Chinese language she took part in various competitions like essay competition in Chinese, calligraphy, poetry reading competitions in Chinese language, etc. One of the first results of her diligent study was when she took first place in the "Chinese Bridge" competition organized by the Confucius Institute of Kazakh National University in Almaty in 2018. As a result, she was awarded the chance to undergo a one-year language internship at any university in China. She had studied Chinese language at the Beijing Language and Culture University in Beijing for one year. In Beijing, she was a member of the Kazakh Students Association in China. In addition, in 2019 she received an honorary prize in the competition "Abai Readings" in Almaty, in February 2020 she took 2nd place at the republican Olympiad on "Translation Studies".
In 2020, she was awarded first place at the republican stage of the "Chinese bridge" competition and had a great opportunity to represent Kazakhstan students at the international stage of this competition. As a result of this competition, she has taken 3rd place among the worls and has become one the 30 strongest students in the world and "6 strongest students in Asia." In 2020 she has entered Peking University, and now she is a master's degree student on the speciality of international politics.
Through diligent study, Zhanel has been able to set the path for her bright future. We have no doubt that she will achieve what she wants. We are proud of these students.
