13 may, 2021

Students of the Department of International Law of the Faculty of International Relations became the winners of the Republican Tournament "SDU MOOT COURT CUP 2021".

The participants of this event were successful students from different universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, such as KIMEP, ENU named after Gumilyov, KRU named after Baitursynov, Narkhoz, etc.

Three teams, two of which took first place in the Russian and Kazakh leagues (the competition was held in Russian, English, and Kazakh in an online format), represented Al-FarabiKazakh National University. These are successful third-year students majoring in International Law. AppazovAlmaz and SeitkadyrOlzhas won the Kazakh league, while ZhaksybayevaAkbota and Kazakbay Dana won the Russian League. The Doctor of PhD, senior lecturer of the Department of International Law Nysanbekova L. B., who has extensive experience in preparing students to participate in such large and authoritative competitions, as well as organizing scientific events, carried out the preparation of students for this competition.

The tournament was held in one of the most interesting formats – Moot Court. Moot Court is a game-based trial with elements of debate. It is a simulation of a trial, in which students prepare written papers in advance - memoranda on behalf of both parties: both the plaintiff and the defendant, and subsequently present their positions during oral hearings. For students, participation in such events provides an opportunity to use theoretical knowledge and improve professional skills, especially the art of advocacy. It is also a good start for the beginning of career growth, as representatives of such companies as Grata International, Synergy Partners, and Integrates evaluated the participants of the tournament, where every international lawyer dreams to get.
