KAZAKHSTAN 30 YEARS IN THE U

KazNU hosted a seminar dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhsta's accession to the United Nations.

The event was organized on the eve of a significant day by the Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development with the support of the UN Information Center in Kazakhstan. The Faculty of Oriental Studies and the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of the University also acted as co-organizers.

Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in the Republic of Kazakhstan Vlastimil Samek spoke to the students. During an interesting and productive conversation, issues on the history and main activities of this international organization, as well as the long-term cooperation of KazNU with UN structures under the sign of commitment to peace and sustainable development were covered. Since 2014, the country's leading university has been the Global Hub of the United Nations Academic Impact program on sustainable development. From this point of view, the event is of particular relevance. In the anniversary year, the Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development plans to hold a series of meetings for the academic community on various areas of UN activities.

Throughout its independence, Kazakhstan has been fruitfully interacting with the UN system and demonstrating its full commitment to the goals and principles of the Charter of the Organization. As President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted: “30 years ago, Kazakhstan became a full member of the UN. We fruitfully cooperate with the Organization in matters of global security and building a harmonious society. In the face of growing geopolitical tensions, we are in favor of strengthening the UN and its consolidating role.”

Recall that on March 2, 1992, following the results of the 46th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, by resolution 46/224, the Republic of Kazakhstan was unanimously admitted to membership in the UN.
