Scientists of the Faculty of Chemistry at al-Farabi KazNU are also engaged in the study of such "click" reactions to obtain new polymer materials. Such work is carried out within the framework of project grant funding by the MES RK, No. AP08052780 “Development of technology for obtaining new vaginal dosage forms based on hydrophilic polymers”. On September 21, 2022, the PhD dissertation of D.S. Kazybayeva was successfully defended at the Dissertation Council of the Faculty of Chemistry (supervisors: Assoc. Prof. G.S. Irmukhametova from KazNU and Prof. V.V. Khutoryanskiy from University of Reading (UK)), which is dedicated to the use of thiol-ene click chemistry to create biodegradable materials for biomedical purposes. Thiol-ene click chemistry is a reaction between molecules containing thiol groups -SH and compounds with unsaturated bonds -C=C-. Kazybayeva, Irmukhametova and Khutoryanskiy in 2022 published a review “Thiolene “click-reactions” as a promising way to obtain polymer materials” in the journal Polymer Science - Series B.
