Leadership lecture at the faculty of International relations

Leadership lecture of Professor Wulf Lapins on “Afghanistan-Central Asia: critical review and prospects” held at faculty of International relations at the threshold of 20th anniversary of Independence of Republic of Kazakhstan was devoted to security problems in Central Asia and the contribution of Kazakhstan to regional stability.


In his opening speech Dean of International relations faculty Karimzhan Shakirov pointed out contribution of Professor Lapins into formation of IR students’ view. During the last five years Professor Wulf Lapins presents his public early lecturers and sponsors research and educational projects. Karimzhan Shakirov underscored professor Lapins’ leadership capacities as a head of largest Friedrich Ebert foundation’s office in Central Asia.

Professor Mara Gubaidullina, by German tradition presented record of Prof. Lapins with his greatest professional achievements. Wulf Lapins along with his work in Central Asia also known as prominent scientist promoting research projects of international studies, political an law researchers. Apart from his own publications W. Lapins edited number of KazNU researchers and lecturers’ books which are in great demand among other students and lecturers. Friedrich Ebert foundation under administration of Wulf Lapins sponsored establishment of German research center at within the structure of faculty of International relations. Establishment of the center pursues realization of scientific problems within the framework of Bologna process.

Grand hall of faculty of Biology gathered more than 100 International Relations and International Law undergraduates, postgraduate students and lecturers from different specialties of the Faculty of International relations. They were involved in analysis of international situation in the region with complex combination of international challenges and positive evaluation of foreign policy of Kazakhstan in comparison with other states.


Participants of the lecture had an opportunity of learning prognosis on Afghanistan and neighboring countries future. Students’ comments on NATO’s political and military activity in Afghanistan, positions of Central Asian states and world leaders, consequences of local wars with questions addressed to lecturer has shown the deep concern of audience in topic of the lecture.

In his turn Professor Lapins marked most active students familiar to him from previous meetings of Friedrich Ebert Foundation: Behzod Ikromov, Elmira Younussova, Margarita Blinkova, Tahmina Abylgazinova, Zarina Karshieva, Blhom Gadozoda and etc.

Leadership lecture of Wulf Lapins was continuation of a series of lectures given by prominent scientists and public figures and finalized the current semester.
