Round table “Afghanistan post NATO: Central Asian States’ perspectives on regional security”
On May 21-22, 2013 RIС on NATO at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the program al-Farabi Carnegie for Central Asia in cooperation with the Swedish Defense Research Agency organized a round table on the topic: "Afghanistan after the NATO withdrawal - security prospects for Central Asian states."
The round table was held with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the RK Manne Wängborg, representatives of the Swedish Defense Research Agency, experts from Central Asian states and the faculty members of International Relations Departments of al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
Round table was in a lively atmosphere in the frames of three main sessions:
•Central Asian perspectives on Afghanistan – national and regional dynamics
• Central Asia and Afghanistan post 2014: Perspectives from Afghanistan and external actors
• Consequences for Central Asia-general discussion
According to the round table results participants agreed on the need for more effective regional cooperation with a purpose of stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan post 2014, and further collaboration with Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI).
