Discussion evening dedicated to Jack London’s novel “White Fang”

On November 7, 2014 at the Students’ Hostel 14 within the framework of the social and innovative project of the University “100 books” a discussion evening dedicated to Jack London’s novel White Fang” was held. This discussion evening was organized by Abdikadyrova Zh.B, lecturer of the Department of Arabic and Iranian Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

Discussion evening began with the presentation of the novel. Much of “White Fang” is written from the viewpoint of the titular canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans. “White Fang” examines the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. The book also explores complex themes including morality and redemption.

“White Fang” has been adapted for the screen numerous times, including a 1991 film starring Ethan Hawke. The students watched the film, and actively discussed the most exciting moments of the novel.

Upon its release, Jack London’s novel “White Fang” was an immediate success worldwide. The novel became popular, especially among younger readers.
