Victory of the team of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University`s Faculty of International Relations on the National Round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competitio

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition held by International Law Students Association since 1959 is the world's most representative moot court competition, with annual participants from over 100 countries. The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. One team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.

This year the Competition`s case has been devoted to the problems of the peoples` right to self-determination and legality of the state activity on the protection of one`s economical resources.

The National Round of 2010 united the students of higher education institutions of Kazakhstan`s different regions: Almaty, Astana, Aktau and Karagandy. During two days the most talent studens checked up their knowledge of international law and orator skills on the debates held in the Kazakh Humanitarian Law University of Astana. Two teams reached the final tour - the Kazakh Humanitarian Law University and the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

For the first time the team of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University consisted of the International Law Department 3rd course students Dilyara Nurgaliyeva, Zharkyn Izbaganbetova, Maryam Kuliyeva and 1st course magistrate Alexander Alexeyev became a winner of the National Round, thus acquiring the right to represent Kazakhstan on the Final Round of the Competition in the U.S.A. (Washington, District of Columbia)on March 2010.

Teams` Captain A. Alexeyev has won Tournament Best Speaker award. The team was trained by Lyazzat B. Nyssanbekova, the Seniors Lecturer of the Al-Farabi KazNU International Relation Faculty`s International Law Department.
