May 31 – Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression and Famine

On May 31, 2024 at 11:30 in the Mazhilis hall of the Faculty of History, an event dedicated to “May 31 - the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Persecution and Holodomor” was held, organized by the Department of History of Kazakhstan.

          The event was attended by the head of the Department of History of Kazakhstan - Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Bereket Bakytzhanovich Karibaev, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, member of the “State Commission for the Complete Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression” specially created by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Khasanaeva L.M., Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Kazakhstan Noyanov E.N. as well as lecturers of the department, students and undergraduates.

          The event began with the screening of a video about “victims of political repression”, academician B.B. Karibaev noted the types of repressions in world history and focused on their manifestation in Kazakhstan in the 20-30s of the twentieth century. Associate Professor L.M. Khasanaeva shared new information about the number of repressed people. Associate Professor E.N. Noyanov spoke about the fate of his family as a descendant of an “enemy of the people”.

          At the end of the event, questions asked by the participants were answered, and undergraduate and graduate history students were tasked with explaining to the population the meaning of today through social networks.
