The Minister together with a Harvard professor visited the library of KazNU

As part of a working visit to the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek and Harvard University professor and expert scientist Mark Elliot familiarized themselves with the activities of the fund of rare books and manuscripts in the Al-Farabi Library.

The collection of rare editions and manuscripts of the Al-Farabi Library. Al-Farabi Library has 14350 copies of books published in XVII-XIX centuries. Of these, 801 are mini-brochures. The collection contains publications and manuscripts related to mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, linguistics, literature, law and economics.

 In particular, books published in Latin, German, French, English, Arabic, Chagatai, Persian, Chinese, for a total of 13 languages have been preserved.

Among these works are samples of valuable books published not only in Central Asia but also in earlier centuries. The working group consisting of oriental scientists, linguists, historians, conducts special expertise, sorting, division into areas related to thematic areas.

Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek positively assessed the research work of scientists of KazNU and highlighted the research work of Harvard University professor, scientist Mark Elliott, emphasizing the special interest of the expert to rare books and manuscripts.

It should be noted that the unique collection of Al-Farabi Library is one of the largest among university libraries of Kazakhstan and is in demand by the educational institution in all research areas. Rare stock books are reflected in the electronic catalog and are regularly replenished with valuable editions.
