Students have an practical training at the Centre for Space Technologies and Remote Sensing of the Earth. Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics

21 june, 2024

Third year Geodesy and Cartography students are currently undergoing an internship at the Centre for Space Technologies and Earth Remote Sensing. This experience provides a unique opportunity not only to deepen their knowledge of geographic information systems and cartography, but also to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

At the Centre for Space Technology and Remote Sensing, they obtain up-to-date information on the state of the earth's surface by analysing data from various satellites. This data is used to monitor natural resources, track climate change and predict natural disasters. For example, analysing changes in forest areas helps to combat illegal logging and maintain biodiversity (SDG 15: SUSTAINING SOUTHERN ECOSYSTEMS). The internship is supervised by Nazym Zhenisova, a senior lecturer at the Department and chief specialist of the Centre for Space Technologies and Earth Remote Sensing.
