KazNU and Xi'an Jiaotong University will create a research and innovation center

The delegation headed by the President of Xi'an Jiaotong Zhang Liyun visited Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi and met with the staff of the university.
The meeting was attended by vice-rectors, heads of departments and structural units, deans of faculties, scientists, faculty.

The event was opened by the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebaev, who noted that cooperation between the two universities is developing at a high pace. "The partnership between KazNU and Xi'an Jiaotong University is being strengthened in the spirit of mutual respect and support. Yesterday in Astana, we held a high-level international symposium of SCO universities. During the event jointly two higher education institutions published a book "International cooperation of SCO member states in the field of higher education". This is the first time such a project has been realized. We intend to further develop our partnership with Jiaotong University. The two universities have great opportunities for this," the rector said.

Also Zhanseit Tuimebayev emphasized that within the framework of the symposium in Astana Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Xi'an Jiaotong University of China signed an agreement on mutual understanding on student exchange. In his speech Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted that the two universities agreed to create a common scientific and innovation hub in the future.  "The new scientific hub will contribute to strengthening bilateral ties of scientists. KazNU professors will work there and gain experience. In addition, 100 students of KazNU can undergo internship in Xi'an Jiaotong University absolutely free of charge. I am sure that all these initiatives will lead us to great achievements", - said Zhanseit Kanseituly.

In turn, the president of Xi'an Jiaotong University Zhang Litsun thanked the leadership and staff of KazNU for the attention and highly appreciated the results of close relations between the two universities. He also noted that the role of KazNU in the international arena is strengthening. According to the guest of honor, the two universities should develop multilateral cooperation in science and higher education.

"Jiaotong University is the oldest higher education institution in China. Next year, the university will celebrate its 130th anniversary. Currently, the university has more than 59 thousand students. Of them more than 31 thousand master's students, more than 10 thousand doctoral students. Today Xi'an Jiaotong University is making great progress in artificial intelligence, energy and humanities. And according to the results of international rankings, we rank first in the world in the field of mechanical engineering. In the future, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Xi'an Jiaotong University should still realize large-scale projects, including strengthening scientific ties and work on the establishment of a joint hub," said Zhang Liyun.

During the meeting Zhanseit Tuimebaev awarded the President of Xi'an Jiaotong University Zhang Liqun the title of "Honorary Professor of KazNU" by the decision of the Academic Council.

After the event, members of the delegation visited scientific laboratories and centers of the university, got acquainted with the scientific infrastructure of KazNU. In addition, they visited the branch of the Northwestern Polytechnic University of China, operating on the basis of the university, and were satisfied with the results of the work.
