Biotechnology students study yeast production

10 september, 2024

Within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12 "Ensuring the transition to rational consumption and production models"), an excursion to the yeast factory in Almaty was organized for 2nd-year students of the educational programs "6B05103 - Biotechnology", "6B05107 – Microbiology", "6B05101-Biological Engineering" of the Department of Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of the Kazakh National Al-Farabi University.

The main purpose of the tour was to demonstrate the yeast production process, which plays an important role in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The event has become a key element of students' practical training, allowing them to become directly familiar with production processes.

During the tour, the students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the Director of Quality, V.S. Sakhanin, who gave them a lecture on the technological processes of yeast production, showed them raw materials and talked about quality control methods.

The students observed each stage of production in real time, from cultivation to fermentation and purification, which contributed to a deep understanding of biotechnological processes and their practical applications. In addition, students gained knowledge about the importance of observing quality and safety standards in production.

Thus, the excursion to the yeast factory became an invaluable experience that enriched the students with practical skills and knowledge that will be useful in their future professional activities. The Department of Biotechnology expresses its deep gratitude for the opportunity to the head of the yeast factory in Almaty Egutkin Vladimir Yuryevich and Director of Quality Sakhanin Vladislav Sergeevich.
