Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an intellectual game ‘Brain Ring’ on the topic ‘Construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan’.

More than 80 students took part in the competition and answered questions about nuclear power plants.

Yerulan Sagidolda, Head of the Department of Electronics and Astrophysics, opened the event with a congratulatory speech and explained the rules of the competition to the participants. ‘Such intellectual games help to draw the attention of young people to the problematic issues of society. In addition, students' participation in such contests allows them to develop the ability to make quick and timely decisions. At present, the topic of NPP construction is topical. Therefore, today's intellectual contest is dedicated to this topic,’ said Yerulan Sagidolda.

The purpose of the intellectual competition organised by the Faculty of Physics and Technology is to increase the level of knowledge of young people about energy issues, nuclear safety and environmental aspects of NPP construction in Kazakhstan, as well as the formation of critical thinking skills.

The competition consisted of four stages. The participants were divided into 8 groups of 10 people each. At the first stage, the young trainees gave an idea of the basic principles of NPP operation, as well as nuclear safety. At the second stage, the participants answered questions about the history of NPP development.

The questions of the third round were aimed at analysing the impact of nuclear power plants on the environment and economy.  In the final round, students discussed the benefits and risks of building a nuclear power plant and shared their opinions.

As a result, prizes were awarded to the winning participants.
