Strengthening academic ties with Polish universities

Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Kazakhstan Michal Labenda.

 

The parties discussed issues of strengthening ties between KazNU and universities of Poland. Particular attention was paid to the interaction of teachers and students on the programme of academic mobility, joint cultural and historical events, implementation of joint projects. 

Zhanseit Tuimebaev noted that the visit of the guest of honour to the institution of higher education is of great importance, and expressed confidence that the negotiations will raise cooperation between KazNU and Polish universities to a new level. Also in his speech the rector emphasised that today's meeting is different from others.

‘The honourable ambassador is an alumnus of our alma mater. In 1993 he first came to Kazakhstan and in 1994 he became a student of the university. This year is 30 years since the day of admission to the educational institution, 25 years since the day of graduation from KazNU. Therefore, the visit of Ambassador Michal Labenda to the institution of higher education has a special character. Besides, he speaks fluent Kazakh’, - said the rector.

At the meeting Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted the need to strengthen ties between KazNU and Polish universities and voiced a number of proposals.

‘To date, the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has close relations with 23 universities in Poland. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is in close relations with 23 universities in Poland. Nevertheless, I believe it is necessary to intensify work in this direction and further develop a joint work plan. For Polish students who want to study with us, the doors of KazNU are always open. It is necessary to create all necessary conditions for training of scientists.  I also propose in the future to issue a book in Kazakh and Polish languages, dedicated to the history of Kazakhstan and Poland,’ - said the head of the university.

In turn, Michal Labenda thanked the rector of KazNU for the attention and expressed readiness to deepen relations in the field of higher education and science.

‘KazNU is a leading higher education institution in Kazakhstan. This university is especially dear to me. We are interested in developing partnership in any direction. In particular, I believe it is important to increase co-operation in the field of education and science. I support all the initiatives and proposals voiced by you at the meeting. It is extremely necessary to develop a two-diploma educational programme between KazNU and Polish universities. With pleasure we accept your offer to publish a book on Kazakh-Polish history. We will make every effort to publish the edition. Also we from our side can send specialists to KazNU to teach young people Polish language’, - said the Ambassador.

At the meeting Zhanseit Tuimebaev invited the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Kazakhstan, a graduate of KazNU Michal Labenda to give a leadership lecture. The honoured guest gladly accepted the proposal of the rector of KazNU.

During the negotiations, the parties agreed to systematically implement the above initiatives and proposals.
