The action ‘Give paper a second life’ took place in KazNU

Al-Farabi KazNU hosted a large-scale environmental action ‘Give paper a second life’, organised as part of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 12 ‘Responsible consumption and production’.
The organizers of the waste paper collection were students of 3-4 years of the educational programme ‘Ecology’ under the guidance of supervisors, senior lecturers of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management Ainur Tanybaeva and Aliya Kerimkulova. Successful organisation and implementation of waste paper collection allowed to involve in the action the university departments, student centre ‘Keremet’, as well as faculties - geography and nature management, biology and biotechnology, physico-technical, chemical-technological, mechanic-mathematical and others.
The action gathered a large number of participants who actively supported the initiative to consume and produce eco-products. Collecting waste paper was an important step towards raising environmental awareness among students and the entire university. The participants not only collected paper for recycling, but also discussed the importance of eco-conscious behaviour and ways to minimise paper waste in everyday life, recycling resources to preserve the environment. The organisers also thought about the process of collecting and storing waste paper before it is sent for recycling. The Faculty of Geography and Nature Management became the place of waste paper collection, where the participants brought newspapers, notebooks and other unnecessary paper products.
This event was another step of the university towards sustainable development and a vivid example of how young people can contribute to environmental protection. This initiative not only helped to draw attention to environmental problems, but also formed in students an informed attitude to the resources they use.
KazNU continues to actively support environmental initiatives, seeking to make a contribution to the conservation of our planet's resources.
