Semiotic Reading of Visual-Anthropological Issues: The Problem of (De)coding Photo and Film Texts

On November 1, 2024, at 17:00, Victoria Vasilyeva, visiting professor at the Department of World History, Historiography, and Source Studies of Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi and visiting researcher at the Institute of Film Studies and Audiovisual Production at Sorbonne Nouvelle University (Sorbonne Nouvelle — Paris), will be conducting an online scientific seminar. The seminar will focus on the topic: “Semiotic Reading of Visual-Anthropological Issues: The Problem of (De)coding Photo and Film Texts.”

- The role of visual documentation technologies in shaping a semiotic perspective of culture;
- Characteristics of photographic and cinematographic representation in terms of the visual "language" employed;
