Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted an international round table “Alternative dispute resolution in the conditions of sustainable development and digital transformation” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The round table was attended by representatives of the management of Al-Farabi KazNU, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Department of Justice of Almaty, the Police Department of Almaty, public associations of mediators and lawyers of Kazakhstan, the Arbitration Center of the National Bar Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken”, lawyers of the Almaty Regional and City Bar Associations, the Chamber of Legal Consultants of Almaty, the Republican Chamber of Private Bailiffs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scientific institutes and universities of Almaty and others.
The purpose of the roundtable was to discuss the problematic issues of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in the context of sustainable development and digital transformation.
Mr. Yerkin Duisenov, Acting Deputy Chairman of the Board - First Vice-Rector, Doctor of Law, Professor, made a welcoming speech. He noted that the process of integration of the institute of alternative dispute resolution into the Kazakhstani legal system has not been completed. “Today, this institution requires theoretical understanding, improvement of the legal framework taking into account the mentality of the Kazakhstani population, in the context of global goals of sustainable development”, - emphasized the Vice-Rector.
Orozbek Sydykov, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic, highlighted the peculiarities of alternative dispute resolution and mediation in Kyrgyzstan. “Mediation among nomadic peoples is not a new phenomenon. Even Shokan Valikhanov wrote that Kyrgyz biys, based on traditional law, solve all judicial disputes. On this basis, Kyrgyz and Kazakhs used methods to settle disputes without bringing them to court. Disputes were resolved based on the tradition of ancestral values”, - said Orazbek Kadyrbekovich.
At the round table also spoke: Head of the Department of Justice of Almaty Balaim Kesebaeva, President of the Republican Public Association “Union of Mediators and Lawyers ‘Man and Law’ Ulbara Jirembaeva, Dean of the Law Faculty of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, PhD in Law, Professor Ualikhan Akhatov, Executive Director of the Arbitration Center NPP RK ‘Atameken’ Askar Kaldybaev and others.
As a result of the roundtable meeting, the participants decided to jointly prepare proposals and recommendations to improve legislation and law enforcement practice in the field of alternative dispute resolution, taking into account the global goals of sustainable development.
