
A two-day seminar dedicated to the Frankfurt Book Fair in Almaty started in the Farabi Library of the Kazakh National University. The theme of the event is “Modern Trends in Publishing and Copyright Management”.
The Forum gathered leading experts and professionals of the book industry, who will discuss current challenges and opportunities for publishers and authors in today's environment.
The plenary session was attended by: Chairman of the Board - Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebav, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Malik Otarbayev, President and CEO of the Frankfurt Book Fair Juergen Boos, founder of the literary agency Mertin Witt Nicole Witt, international project manager of the Frankfurt Book Fair Bettina Beck, manager of key account management and sales of the Frankfurt Book Fair Vladyka Kupska, consultant, expert on digital publishing Hermann Eckel, director of the Cultural Foundation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The main purpose of the seminar was to exchange knowledge and experience between participants, discuss modern trends in book publishing and effective approaches to copyright management.
Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebaev opened the event with a welcoming speech: “I am glad that the first in Central Asia seminar of the famous Frankfurt Book Fair, which has five hundred years of history, is held in Almaty, in the walls of Al-Farabi KazNU. The work of this seminar will be useful and interesting for professionals. Discussion, exchange of opinions with experts of Frankfurt Book Fair about the latest trends and news in the field of publishing will improve the skills of our specialists in this area,” - said the head of KazNU, wishing all participants fruitful work.
Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Malik Otarbayev also spoke at the meeting, noting that Frankfurt is becoming the world book capital of Europe, the center of book distribution and opens the way to international solidarity of printers and publishers. “With the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Frankfurt Book Fair for the first time in Central Asia launched a two-day seminar dedicated to current issues of publishing. I would like to specially thank the President of the Frankfurt Book Fair and LITPROM President Jürgen Boos, who supported this initiative. After all, holding the Frankfurt Book Fair in Almaty is the biggest and most important event for publishers, authors and booksellers in the country. It is obvious that this seminar will have a huge impact on the specialists of this industry in our country”.
Chief Executive Officer of Frankfurt Book Fair Jurgen Boos also made a speech, emphasizing the importance of such events for the development of the book industry and stimulating literary dialogue, and expressed hope for further cooperation between Frankfurt Book Fair and KazNU.
A congratulatory letter from Aida Balaeva, Minister of Culture and Information, was also read out. The two-day seminar will include sessions devoted to the topics: “Buying and selling copyrights and licenses”, ‘Frankfurt Book Fair and its invitation programs’, ‘Frankfurt Connect and the Frankfurt Rights platform’ and others.
During the seminar, participants exchanged opinions, learned about new trends in the publishing business, and discussed best practices that will help strengthen cooperation between authors, publishers and readers. As noted by domestic publishers, such a seminar emphasizes the importance of cultural exchange and development of the book industry in Kazakhstan, creating a platform for dialogue and mutual understanding.
