Liaison with the University of Pennsylvania

A delegation from Pennsylvania State University visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The delegation included a specialist in engineering and mechanics, Professor Slava V. Rotkin and Professor Igor Aronson of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry and Mathematics. Within the framework of the visit the delegation met with the Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev.
The participants discussed promising areas of co-operation between the two universities, exchange of experience in science and education, as well as opportunities for joint research.
During the talks, Professor Slava V. Rotkin noted that Kazakhstan has great opportunities and they are impressed by the university, which has significant potential. ‘One of the directions of possible exchanges and contacts in the scientific sphere is co-operation with professors. I believe it can reach a higher level than with other countries. When you meet a person for the first time, it takes a little time to understand him. And when you realise when talking that you have a common background, when you have studied from the same textbooks and share similar values in science, it is very important. I hope that we can develop a certain roadmap and start to fulfil the tasks that need to be done on both sides,’ Professor Rotkin said.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views and discussed several key issues related to the development of co-operation. This meeting was an important step in strengthening international ties and promoting the development of educational programmes. After the meeting, the delegation of the University of Pennsylvania familiarised itself with the work of the laboratory of the faculties of Physics and Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Technology.
