The presidents of two countries inaugurated a branch of KazNU

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, officially opened the branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky. This event took place as part of the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan.
The event was also attended by Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky, Chairman of the Board – Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev and Rector of OmSU Sergey Zamyatin.
During a meeting of the National Council for Science and Technology, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized: «Leading universities in the country, as well as branches of foreign universities, must promptly prepare scientists and qualified specialists for the priority sectors of our economy».
Sayasat Nurbek and Konstantin Mogilevsky addressed the Presidents of the two states: "Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, dear Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich! The issue of creating a branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at Omsk State University named after Fyodor Dostoevsky has been worked out. The branch is ready to open".
Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev and Rector of Omsk State University named after F.Dostoevsky Sergey Zamyatin together opened a sign with the name of the branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The division of Kazakhstan’s first university in Russia will begin accepting applicants in September 2025. The governments of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation have allocated 200 educational grants for student enrollment.
The KazNU branch will offer Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in «International Law», «Kazakh Philology», and «Customs Affairs». In the future, a double-degree program is planned.
Education at the unit will be conducted in kazakh, russian, and english, and foreign scholars will be involved in the educational process.
The new branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is located on the 6th floor of the main building of OmSU named after F.M.Dostoevsky at the address: Frunze str., 6. The total area is 1620 m2. Currently, 10 classrooms have been prepared and equipped for educational and methodological activities, in particular, the offices of customs named after Ch.Valikhanov, Abai Kazakh Language and N.Torekulov International Law, 5 classrooms for management and teaching staff, 7 classrooms, as well as coworking centers.
The opening of a branch of a leading Kazakh university in the Russian Federation contributes to the development of further collaboration and the development of scientific and educational potential of the two countries within the framework of Eurasian integration.
It is worth recalling that OmSU is a multifunctional educational, research, cultural and educational complex that provides professional training and retraining of personnel in a wide range of areas on the basis of promising scientific projects. Omsk State University named after F.M.Dostoevsky was founded in 1973. To date, 1,056 teachers and staff work at the higher educational institution, and 5,740 students study. The university has 9 faculties.
