MEXT scholarship: A special program on Global Food Security Partnership Program at University of Tsukuba (PhD)
Objectives of Education
This program is aimed at enhancing common understanding among the program participating students and at bridging the food security topics with each thesis research subject. Students shall understand the mutual dependence of food security at the global basis. Deep comprehension is required during schooling over world food security and sustainability for achieving UN SDGs associated with the policy and implementation plan.
Schooling topics is further focused such on devastating effects of climate change, sustainability of water resources and land uses etc. to have knowledge and skills in coping with multi-tasks in food security issues. Also associated with agriculture aspects, further elaboration of understanding is expected such on mechanization of agriculture systems, post harvest technology, integrated pest management, crop breeding so on. Those topics shall be related to the research topics of each student within GFSP in order to allow participating students to furnish capacity to be a leader in solving the problems on food security. The degree is Ph.D. (Agriculture).
1. Admission Policy
(1) Qualifications
a) Non-Japanese, and target nationality is pre-determined by MEXT
b) Applicant must have an employment at public agencies such as academic institutions, and home employers allow leave of absence for the Ph.D. study, and guaranteed to reinstall its job after degree to make relevant knowledge sharing. It is a staff development and institutional capacity building.
c) Age: Basic rule is born after April 1, 1981, which means applicant should be under 35 years old.
d) GPA should be more than 2.5/3.0 grade during last two years.
c) A proof of English capacity by TOEFL (over 550 by PBT and 80 by iBT) 6.5 by IELTS and about 730 by TOEIC), if no score MUET and other (national, local) qualification can be also considered. Individual certification by an academic institution is not considered.
d) Health: A proof of public certificate is required to support capacity to conduct study and research in full time without physical and mental supports.
e) Non-eligible individuals:
i) individuals with military, affiliated industry or attaché service
ii) Those who cannot come as scheduled. Individual arrangements cannot be made and all appointed applicant must come to Japan on time.
(2) Policy of Selecting Students
The University will make a comprehensive evaluation of applicants based on whether each applicant has ability of research in the advance field of agricultural sciences and the proficiency in English. Additionally, academic ability to acquire advanced knowledge and understandings of contemporary problems existing in the world will be evaluated based on the submitted documents, research presentation, and individual interview.

(4) Submission of Required Documents by Post: January 25, 2016 to January 29, 2016 (Originals) (5) Individual Interviews (Oral Examination): February 22 to February 26, 2016
(6) Announcement of Final Decision on Application: May 31, 2016
(7) Enrollment Procedures: End of June, 2016 to beginning of September, 2016

(8) Enrollment Date: October 1, 2016
(9) Entrance Ceremony: End of September, 2016 (A separate notification will be sent)
5. Qualifications of Applicants
Requirements: Applicant shall have academic qualification equivalent to the Japanese university system.
a) Desirably an applicant shall have a master degree with more than 18 years of education. Applicant without a master degree may be considered, but applicant should have more than 16 years of education (has a university/college degree as minimum) , and with this case relevant professional working proof verification is essential with pre-examination of the eligibility at an individual basis.
b) More than 24 years old
c) After MEXT APPROVAL of scholarship, applicant must take and pass the admission exam on line or face to face interview if condition allows before coming to Japan.
d) Research subject should be identified upon the communication between applicants and host professor and it should be within context of the scholarship program on the Global Food Security Partnership, widely on agriculture including humanity and social science research associated with agriculture. The research must be done in Japan, basically.
6. Scholarship context
a) Support for three years (standard time line for completion of Ph.D. course) with monthly payment of yen 145,000
b) Round trip air ticket between Japan and Home country
c) Waiver of admission fee, entrance fee and tuitions

You will take an online examination at 22th-26th in February.
