Goodwill campaign "Donors give life"
On February 6, 2025, the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in collaboration with the Charitable Foundation named after Asel Baiseitova (ABFond), hosted an open lecture on bone marrow donation. This event was part of the Goodwill Action 'Donors Give Life' and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the Republic of Kazakhstan, specifically SDG 3, which focuses on 'Good Health and Well-Being,' and SDG 17, which emphasizes 'Global Partnerships for Development.'
The lecture on bone marrow donation and the Goodwill Action ‘Donors Give Life’ are timed to coincide with World Cancer Day and International Children with Cancer Day.
World Cancer Day was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is celebrated annually on 4 February in all countries of the world, while the International Day of Children with Cancer has been celebrated on 15 February in more than 40 countries since 2001 under the auspices of the Society of Paediatric Oncologists.
The purpose of the lecture and goodwill action is to present the activities of ABFond, its achievements in 1.5 years of work and to highlight the problems of development of bone marrow donation in Kazakhstan.
ABFond is the first and so far only public organization in Kazakhstan whose main mission is to provide education in the field of oncohematology and to develop the institution of bone marrow donation in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
The lecture on bone marrow donation and the charity campaign "Donors give life" was held together with doctors from the Republican Blood Centre (RBC) of Almaty.
The lecture was attended by 38 students and teachers of the faculty. The Dean of the Faculty B.B. Meirbaev gave a welcoming speech, in which he stressed the importance of the manifestation of consciousness, humanity and civic attitude of students of social and humanitarian specialties.
After the lecture, 3 students registered in the National Register of Bone Marrow Donors.
