Three young researchers of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology have won the grant funding competition “Zhas galym”

22 february, 2025

Winners of the competition for grant funding of scientific research of young scientists for 2025-2027 under the grant funding competition “Zhas galym” were senior lecturers of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience, PhD Esenbekova Araylym Esenbekovna, PhD Syraiyl Sayagul and doctoral student of the Department of Biotechnology Kozhakhmetova Marzhan Khalidollakyzy.
The project by Arailym Yesenbekova is dedicated to a relevant and socially significant topic: “Determination of new circulating biomarkers associated with nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.” Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a serious health problem, and nephropathy is one of its most common and severe complications, leading to chronic renal failure. This project is of great importance for the development of modern biomedicine and opens up new prospects for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic nephropathy.
A.E. Yesenbekova has more than 40 published articles, including 1 textbook, 1 author's certificate, 8 articles in journals recommended by the International Scientific and CCESF MES RK , 24 in the International Collection of Abstracts, and 7 publications in journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases (Hirsch index - 3). Research topic of the submitted study by Syraiyl Sayagul is "Study of the Phytopharmaceutical Potential of Medicinal Shrubs Growing in the Southeast of Kazakhstan".
Project supervisor Syraiyl Sayagul has H-index 5 in Scopus, H-index 2 in Web of Science, author of near 40 scientific articles published in national and international journals, including 7 articles in international journals indexed in Scopus, 3 articles in international journals indexed in Web of Science, 10 articles in national scientific journals listed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 20+ articles and abstracts in materials from international conferences and symposiums. Scientific interests of Syraiyl Sayagul is researching ecological, morphological, phytochemical, and biomedical properties of medicinal plants, evaluating the effects of plant extracts on animal organisms in in vitro conditions, as well as conducting histomorphological analysis of their impact on animal organisms.

The project title by Kozhakhmetova Marzhan Halidollaevna is “Creation of biotechnology for atmospheric carbon sequestration by microalgae for green innovations”. Project supervisor M.Kh. Kozhakhmetova has Hirsch Index – 3, her primary research activity is in environmental microbiology and environmental biotechnology. She holds 1 patent and has published 15 scientific papers in domestic and international journals in the field of coal biotechnology. She completed a scientific internship at the Institute of Bioengineering of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences (Jülich, Germany).
Research projects of young scientists are aimed at the optimal solution of various problems of biomedicine, phytochemistry and biomedical features of medicinal plants and biotechnology. We wish further success and new achievements in scientific research to our talented young scientists!
