An environmental hub was opened at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on the initiative of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management.

This project is based on the initiative to create environmental clubs to support student initiatives aimed at developing environmental culture in higher education institutions and beyond, within the framework of the Clean Kazakhstan program.

KazNU's Eco hub is part of the ECO Network of ecohabs, which are being created on the direct instructions of the Head of State.

This center is aimed at increasing the activity of young people in the field of environmental protection, sustainable development and the introduction of green technologies.

The solemn event brought together the university's leadership, the head of the ECO Network project, representatives of environmental centers, ecologist Evgeny Mukhamedzhanov, professors, teachers and students.

The Environmental Hub is an action–oriented platform that addresses the current challenges of our time. It is an important tool for improving environmental literacy and fostering responsibility for nature among young people. Today, plastic waste is one of the main causes of the global environmental crisis.

Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter the environment and poison the soil, water, air and living organisms. This situation causes great harm not only to nature but also to human health. In the newly opened environmental hub, students will be able to master the process of separate collection, processing of plastic and creation of useful products from it.

The participants of the event also discussed issues related to the environment and stressed the importance of such initiatives in shaping an ecological culture. Various seminars, master classes, environmental actions and startup projects aimed at promoting environmental knowledge will be organized on the basis of the hub.

Environmental students from UNESCO's Department of Sustainable Development will play a special role in scaling up this project. They will help to introduce and develop this practice, first at the level of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, and then throughout the university. This will provide an opportunity to involve as many young people as possible in solving urgent environmental problems.

The Ecological Hub is a unique platform combining knowledge and science, experience and activity. Thanks to this, students and young scientists will have the opportunity to implement new ideas in the field of ecology.
