Geographers of the Turkic world combine their scientific potential

The 2nd International Congress of Geographers of the Turkic World has commenced at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The goal of the event is to exchange experience and ideas to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and address global environmental challenges.
The event was attended by more than 200 scientists and specialists from Turkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, scientists, environmental experts, teachers and students.
The congress was officially opened with a welcome speech by Margulan Ibraimov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
"Today, as global challenges demand the consolidation of efforts and the search for innovative solutions, cooperation between our countries becomes especially important. This congress, bringing together leading scientists, experts, and practitioners, is intended to serve as a catalyst for new ideas and projects that will promote sustainable development in our nations and strengthen cultural ties", - said Margulan Ibraimov.
In his speech, the Acting Vice-rector also touched upon the priority areas of KazNU's research activities, such as the development of "green" technologies and renewable energy sources, artificial intelligence and digital technologies in education and science, research in the field of humanities aimed at preserving and popularizing the cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples.
During the congress, presentations were delivered by Mustafa Giritlioglu, Vice-Rector for Finance and International Relations at Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, the leadership of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the President of the Kyrgyz Geographical Society and Professor of the M. Adyshev Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Salamat Alamanov, as well as other scholars.
Also delivering presentations were PhD and Professor of Osmangazi University (Turkiye) Eyüp Artvinli, Vice-Rector Mustafa Giritlioglu, Professor Salamat Alamanov, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Aliya Aktymbayeva, Professor of the Department of Geography, Land Management, and Cadastre at KazNU Maulken Askarova, Rector of the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn Dogdurbek Chontoev, and Professor of Baku State University (Republic of Azerbaijan) Chingiz Ismayilov, among many others. In their speeches, they addressed a wide range of topics—from geographic education and environmental issues to the geopolitical and cultural dimensions of the Turkic world. Video greetings from scholars in other countries were also presented.
During the congress, scholars discussed key issues in the fields of geography, ecology, and sustainable development. Participants focused on climate change, the efficient use of natural resources, and regional integration. Following the plenary sessions, the participants continued their work in thematic sections, where they explored topics such as the historical formation of Turkic-speaking states in Eurasia, challenges in geographic education, water resource management and disaster prevention, as well as the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic world, among others.
The International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and the Kyrgyz National University named after Zh.Balasaguna (Kyrgyzstan), JSC "Institute of Geography and Water Security", Eskisehir Osmangazi University (Turkiye).
According to the participants, the II Congress of Geographers of the Turkic World has become a platform for developing joint solutions for sustainable development and environmental protection. The congress will last two days.
