26 may, 2025

The Department of the Far East of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has won a grant from the prestigious Korean Academy (Academy of Korean Studies, South Korea). The international research project will be carried out for five years.

The project entitled "Creation of a database (DB) and a usage platform for Korean studies in the Central Asian Belt" is aimed at the formation and development of a digital database and platform for the humanitarian topography of Korean studies in Central Asia. It covers the most important areas in the study of the history, culture and identity of the Korean diaspora in the region, and also involves the creation of innovative research tools and educational resources that contribute to the development of Korean studies at the international level.

It is noteworthy that leading universities and research centers from all over the world took part in the competition, but only two universities became winners, one of which is Al–Farabi Kazakh National University. This indicates the high international recognition of the scientific potential of KazNU and the professionalism of the teachers of the Department of the Far East.

The project is being implemented from 2025 to 2030 and involves active international cooperation, conducting field research, international conferences, publishing scientific papers, developing academic mobility and involving young researchers in cutting-edge scientific initiatives.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has once again confirmed its status as one of the leading scientific and educational centers in the region, making a significant contribution to strengthening academic dialogue between Central Asia and South Korea.
