In Almaty Discussed the Greening Challenges of the Megacity

On June 27, 2025, a meeting dedicated to pressing issues of urban greening was held in the conference hall of JSC "Almaty City Development Center" (CDC). The event took place within the framework of the Smart Sustainable Development Platform.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chairwoman of the CDC Board, Zhanar Muratovna Gabdullina. The discussion was attended by representatives of government and scientific institutions, public organizations, and other interested parties. From the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Head of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development T.A. Bazarbayeva and Associate Professor G.A. Sadyrova participated in the event.

The meeting addressed the following key issues:

• implementation of digital and satellite tools for urban tree inventory;
• tightening technical and qualification requirements for contractors engaged in greening;
• improving planning, implementation, and financing mechanisms for greening initiatives, among others.

The purpose of the meeting was to develop coordinated solutions with the involvement of all stakeholders to enhance the environmental sustainability and comfort of the urban environment. The CDC platform will continue to bring stakeholders together to jointly develop solutions in the field of sustainable urban development.
