Deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan got acquainted with scientific achievements of KazNU

Deputies of the Senate and the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan paid an official visit to the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and got acquainted with the work of scientific centers.

The event was attended by deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Altynbek Nukhuly, Nurtore Zhusup, deputies of the Mazhilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Zhanarbek Ashimzhan, Irina Smirnova, Aidos Sarym, Ermurat Bapi.

As part of the campus tour, the Kazakh-Chinese joint laboratory "Remote Sensing Technologies and their applications" was presented to the guests.

The Remote Sensing Center, established jointly with the Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, uses advanced satellite and geospatial analysis methods. Scientists here are conducting examinations of such phenomena in Central Asia as climate change, ecology, drought, land degradation, water scarcity and lowering the level of the Caspian Sea.

The deputies also visited the Supercomputer Cluster. The center's specialists noted that one of the 600 best supercomputers in the world is located at KazNU. Its power is 10,000 times that of the most modern personal computer. This allows it to solve tasks that existing computers have been performing for decades in one hour. The country's researchers can also use the computing power of the KazNU supercomputer in the field of climate modeling, development of advanced machine learning algorithms, Big Data and artificial intelligence.

And at the Robotics Center, the guests were presented with works from the leading German company KUKA. The deputies drew attention to the relevance of activities in the field of industrial automation and digitalization, and exchanged views with the staff of the scientific center.

The deputies also visited the Farabi HUB center for innovative products and high-tech projects, where they got acquainted with the results of scientific research at the university. Modern laboratories here allow for research and experimentation in various fields of science and technology. Startup projects in the creative industry and artificial intelligence are being implemented.

At the end of the event, the deputies discussed the possibilities of KazNU's scientific infrastructure and praised it.
