Summer School for Preparing School Students for the Prestigious International Biology Olympiad

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in preparing school students for the prestigious 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO), which was held from July 20 to 27, 2025, in Quezon City, Philippines.

Our students represented Kazakhstan with honor, winning a bronze medal and demonstrating excellent results.

The Olympiad consisted of two stages:

• Theoretical round — solving complex problems in molecular and cell biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, and biosystematics;
• Practical round — conducting laboratory research, microscopy, working with samples, and analyzing biological processes.

Active participation in the students’ practical training was provided by the department’s faculty members and prominent scientists — A.К. Amirova, Suvorova M.A., Lovinskaya A.V., A.К. Kuanbay, and S.D.  Alybayev. They conducted laboratory classes and practical sessions for students on modern methods used in the field of molecular biology and genetic engineering.

We are sincerely proud of the achievements of our young biologists, admire their perseverance and talent, and wish them further success on the international stage. The department is delighted to continue contributing to such an important cause — supporting and fostering the development of future scientific geniuses.
