This week, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in collaboration with the A. Baitursynuly Institute of Linguistics, hosted the 4th session of Askar Zhubanov Readings annual  research forum. Within the framework of the forum there was  “The National Corpus of the Kazakh Language as a Linguistic Foundation for Teaching Large Language Models (LLM)” event  focused on the intersection of digital linguistics, AI, and applied language studies.

The scholars from KazNU made a significant contribution to the discussion. Professor Raushangul Avakova and Associate Professor Saule Bektemirova presented their research on evaluating machine translation quality using BLEU metrics. Associate Professor Ayuzhan Tausogarova explored conceptual components of text attribution and linguistic identity. Graduate student Gulzamira Dauletiyar and undergraduate Aidana Tileukabylova discussed innovative methods for integrating AI tools into language learning and improving digital literacy.

The forum addressed key issues such as corpus annotation, data processing, AI integration in LLM-based education, and the development of Kazakh linguistic resources. Participants also highlighted the foundational contribution of Professor Askar Kudaibergenuly Zhubanov to the formation of applied and computational linguistics in Kazakhstan.

The event became a vibrant platform for scientific dialogue, uniting researchers across generations and reinforcing KazNU’s role as a leading center for linguistic innovation and digital research.
