Petrochemical laboratory-the beginning of the future

1 september, 2025

The laboratory is mainly engaged in conducting in-depth research in the field of petrochemistry. Here, the composition, properties and processing processes of oil and oil products are studied, and scientific work is carried out in the direction of developing new innovative technologies.

Oil is the Kazakh "Black Pearl". It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of the whole country is tied to black oil, which makes up the bulk of the national economy. After all, it is the main breadwinner of the country. "Therefore, it is much more profitable for us to recycle and sell oil in commodity form than to export it raw. This is stated by the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is always attentive to domestic companies", - professor Ermek Aitkazievich

What would he do?

We have a lot of oil waste and it is not always used efficiently. We know that the composition of domestic oil is dominated by paraffin, sulfur. Therefore, it is known that the residue will be abundant. And is it possible to process and dispose of this heavy oil waste? Of course, it will be. According to Professor Yermek Aubakirov, we produce bitumen, road paving products, sulfur compounds from oil waste. But this is not enough.

Now the laboratory is developing a resource-saving technology for the safe disposal of heavy oil waste. And waste is used as raw materials for the production of Coke and fuel distillates. This technology not only reduces the environmental burden, but also increases the economic efficiency of oil refining. After all, the technology used by the laboratory is designed to obtain high-quality products.

Thus, the project "development of technologies for complex processing of heavy oil waste into valuable technical products and fuel distillates" is a project of the future. Now the main prerequisites for it have been created. According to scientists, before that, Coke was extracted only from coal. Now Coke from oil residues will further enrich the range of products. Coke is a valuable technical product. It is used in the mining and metallurgical and electronics industries. Therefore, the future of this project is ahead. Now patenting work is underway.

1.Project goal: to develop a resource-saving technology for complex heat treatment of valuable technical products and fuel distillates through motor oils using heavy oil residues as carbon-containing raw materials.

2. Advantages over analogues:

1.environmental friendliness and sustainability: the technology reduces waste volume and environmental pollution by recycling heavy oil waste and used motor oils.

2.energy efficiency: features low energy consumption during high performance. This, in comparison with existing analogues, increases economic efficiency.

3.Universal property: the technology is easily adapted to various types of raw materials and is suitable for use in a wide range of petrochemical industries-from lubricants to bitumen.

4.conversion of waste into a valuable product: unlike many disposal methods, the technology allows you to obtain products that are in demand on the market (lubricants, bitumen).

3. Main results:

  • The composition of the tar and used motor oils of the kumkol field was studied using modern physico-chemical methods.
  • At a temperature of 480-520°c, solid products (coke) and liquid fractions (gasoline, light and heavy gas oil) were extracted from heavy oil residues with the participation of used motor oils, their physicochemical properties and chemical composition were determined.
  • Based on the results of the project, two articles were published in journals included in the Scopus database (Q1), as well as one article in the Journal "Neft and Gaz", recommended by the Committee for quality assurance in education of the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan

4.Application: the developed technology not only allows you to safely dispose of heavy oil residues, but also turns them into valuable raw materials for the production of Coke and fuel distillates. This process will improve the environmental situation and increase the economic efficiency of oil refining.
