A meeting of scientists of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics with representatives of the Almaty Air Initiative Foundation was held at al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The purpose of the cooperation is to develop scientifically based solutions to improve air quality in Almaty.

The participants considered the possibilities of using mathematical modeling to analyze the state of the atmosphere in the city and evaluate the effectiveness of environmental initiatives. Special attention was paid to ensuring that the developed approaches could be applied in practice and actually contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens. The Executive Director of the Foundation, Zhuldyz Saulebekova, emphasized: "Clean air is a matter of health, the future and sustainable development of the city. Every decision should be based on reliable data and scientific calculations. Therefore, cooperation with KazNU is of strategic importance to us".  The university noted that scientific research should bring concrete benefits.

The meeting was held in line with the initiative "Taza Kazakhstan", proclaimed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as a strategic direction for the development of environmental policy.

The participants noted that the partnership is directly related to the implementation of several UN Sustainable Development Goals. First of all, we are talking about SDG 3 (Good health and well-being), since reducing air pollution is an important factor in protecting the health of megacity residents. The cooperation also supports the direction of SDG 11 (Sustainable cities and human settlements), where the key condition is to create an environmentally safe and comfortable urban environment. In addition, the project contributes to SDG 13 (Combating climate change), as the development of science-based solutions and reducing emissions directly affects the reduction of the carbon footprint and adaptation of the city to climate change.

Following the meeting, it was decided that the Almaty Air Initiative Foundation would prepare a technical assignment for KazNU scientists, which would become the basis for expert assessment and mathematical modeling of initiatives aimed at improving air quality in Almaty.
