University-Wide Cleanup Day Held at KazNU. SDG 15 – Life on Land
At Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the traditional university-wide cleanup day was held. This event is one of the most important traditions of university life and aims to beautify the campus, promote students’ ecological awareness, and actively engage young people in community work while enhancing their social responsibility. The cleanup day helps strengthen students’ respect for the university, foster a collective spirit, and provide experience in teamwork to achieve common goals. Additionally, it encourages students to develop an active civic position and a conscious attitude toward the environment.
The event was led by assistant-professors of the Department of Plasma Physics, Nanotechnology, and Computer Physics, Kenzhebekova A.I. and Amrenova A.U. Together with 2nd- and 3rd-year students of the “Electric Power Engineering” program, they participated in cleaning the university grounds, maintaining green areas, and landscaping the campus. During the event, students and faculty jointly collected trash, watered and planted trees and shrubs, and carried out maintenance around academic buildings and pedestrian paths. Students’ active participation contributed significantly to creating a clean, comfortable, and well-maintained university environment.
The cleanup day allowed students to develop respect and care for nature, teamwork skills, responsibility, and cooperation. During the joint work, they gained practical experience in the importance of organizational discipline and mutual support. Additionally, they improved their practical skills and understood the importance of maintaining ecological order and cleanliness. Faculty members shared their knowledge and experience to enhance students’ practical abilities, develop their organizational skills, and coordinate teamwork. This experience also helps students strengthen their project management capabilities for future collaborative initiatives.
Such cleanup days are an important part of the university’s ongoing ecological and social activities. The university places particular emphasis on fostering ecological responsibility among students and improving the campus through the combined efforts of faculty and students. The event helps cultivate students’ pride in their university, strengthen their active civic engagement, and promote ecological culture. Through participation, young people deepen their love for nature and understand the importance of environmental protection. Additionally, the event stimulates students’ initiative and encourages them to implement their own ideas.
The cleanup day was organized at a high level, and the participants’ engagement ensured the event’s success. Students were able to see the results of their work and appreciate the significance of each action in improving the campus. Moreover, it inspired them to participate in similar environmental and social projects in the future. The event was not only a campus cleanup but also an important initiative for fostering students’ ecological awareness, social responsibility, and collective spirit. Such experiences motivate young people to actively participate in society and contribute to maintaining a clean and comfortable university environment.
