History of the department

The Department of Internal Medicine was organized in 2024 by decision of the Board of Directors of the Non-Profit Joint Stock Company Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in accordance with subparagraph 27, paragraph 71 of the Charter of the NJSC "Al-Farabi KazNU". The head of the department is candidate of medical sciences and Associate Professor Sholpan Sauatbekovna Sadykova.

The department's staff are actively engaged in all areas of activity, including educational and methodological work, scientific research, student mentoring, and expert work in the field of healthcare.

The Department of Internal Medicine trains undergraduate students within the framework of the educational program "General Medicine", "Medicine" and "Dentistry"  with the teaching disciplines: “Introduction to the Profession”, “Patient and Doctor”, “Pathology of the respiratory system”, “Pathology of the cardiovascular system”, “Pathology of the hematopoietic system and transfusiology”, “Pathology of the digestive system”, “Pathology of the urinary system and homeostasis”, “Pathology of the endocrine system and metabolism”, “Pathology of the musculoskeletal system and skin”, “Internal Diseases”, “Integrated Clinical Diagnosis Course” and“Internal medicine to the dentist”.

The department carries out research work on grants from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education:

  1. AP14870934 – "Study of genetic, immune, and mucosal predictors of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and the development and implementation of new methods for its diagnosis and prevention."
  2. AP19677754 – "Development of markers and a diagnostic algorithm for the detection and prevention of early cardiovascular aging."
  3. AP19675905 – "Study of immunogenetic and clinical predictors of immunopathology in infectious and autoimmune diseases after SARS-CoV-2 infection."

In the 2024–2025 academic year, 6 papers have been published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed in leading scientific databases (Web of Science, Scopus, Springer). In Scopus, 6 articles were published, including  Q1-2, Q2-1, Q3-2 and Q4-1. Additionally, there were publications in the database Committee for Quality Assurance in the Sphere of Education of the Ministry of Education  and presentations in national and international scientific conferences.
