Research Project Aimed at Developing Academic Writing Skills at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
In modern higher education, the development of academic literacy among students is becoming increasingly important. One of the key research directions is the formation of scientific writing skills in the Kazakh language, improvement of academic style, and systematization of research procedures. This scientific work focuses on a comprehensive study of methodological approaches to teaching academic writing.
The project aims to improve the quality of academic writing education in higher education institutions. Currently, there is a shortage of high-quality teaching materials for academic writing in the Kazakh language. Most existing educational resources are limited to theoretical explanations, while the practical formation of scientific writing skills requires a more systematic approach. To address this issue, researchers at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University are developing an integrated methodology for teaching academic writing.
The main objective of the project is to create a scientific text design model, systematize research procedures, and develop a monograph and practical workbooks aimed at forming academic writing skills. Empirical studies are also planned to determine the level of academic writing proficiency among students and teachers.
Within the project, academic writing is considered through an interdisciplinary approach. Knowledge from linguistics, pedagogy, and social sciences is integrated to develop effective scientific text construction models. Special attention is given to text structure clarity, logical coherence, and compliance with academic style requirements.
Data collection is an important part of the research. Students of higher education institutions participate in testing and surveys to assess their academic writing competence. In addition, surveys are conducted among faculty members to identify challenges in teaching academic writing.
The research results are planned to be published in scientific articles. Based on the collected data, a monograph will be developed, and practical workbooks will be prepared. These materials will help students master the structural principles of scientific writing.
The development of academic writing also requires analysis of international scientific experience. Content analysis of domestic and foreign scientific literature is conducted, and the characteristics of scientific style, text construction principles, and methods of writing skill formation are studied. Academic writing experience from English and Russian traditions is adapted considering the grammatical and stylistic features of the Kazakh language.
The practical part of the project includes the development of a system of exercises aimed at improving students' scientific writing skills. The monograph will present theoretical foundations of academic writing, while the workbooks will contain practical tasks for skill development.
Experimental methods are applied during the research process. Student writing skills are evaluated through testing, and changes in the educational process are analyzed. Observation, questionnaires, and comparative analysis methods are also used. The collected data are processed using statistical and qualitative research methods.
The project strictly follows academic ethics standards. Data falsification, plagiarism, and copyright violations are not allowed. Research results will be published in scientific journals and integrated into the university’s educational process.
This scientific project contributes to the development of academic writing culture in Kazakhstan, improves higher education quality, and strengthens the scientific potential of the Kazakh language. The research, conducted by scholars of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, supports the introduction of modern methodological solutions into the education system.
