Intellectual Innovation Contest "EcoEnergy Hackathon"

25 february, 2026

On February 25, 2026, the Faculty of Philology hosted a large-scale intellectual competition, "EcoEnergy Hackathon," aimed at implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The primary goal of the event was to draw students' attention to SDG 7: "Affordable and Clean Energy" and engage them in the search for practical solutions to environmental challenges.

    The first part of the program focused on the significance and history of sustainable development. Students were introduced to the concept of sustainability established in the "Our Common Future" report (1987) and analyzed the principles of meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. It was emphasized that the role of energy in modern society is a key factor for the continuous operation of hospitals, universities, and digital technologies. Global energy crises, fossil fuel dependency, and climate change were also addressed.

      In the practical part of the hackathon, students engaged in project work on the topic: "How to improve energy efficiency at the university?". Teams identified energy waste in university classrooms and buildings (excessive lighting, heat loss) and proposed optimization methods. Specifically:

- Complete transition to LED lamps and installation of motion-sensor lighting systems;

- Utilization of alternative energy by installing solar panels on university rooftops;

- Development of digital solutions to foster an energy-saving culture among students.

     Participants calculated project implementation timelines, identified responsible parties, and estimated expected economic efficiency. This hackathon proved that students can not only acquire knowledge but also act as agents of positive change in society.

    Organizers: Senior Lecturer of the Department of Turkology and Language Theory Nesipbay Guldana and 3rd-year students of the specialty "6В01706 Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages."
