Askar Khikmetov was born in 1979. He is a graduate of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with a degree in applied mathematics.
In 2010, he successfully defended his thesis on the topic “Modeling of turbulent flows in a stratified environment” in the specialty “051318-mathematical modeling, numerical methods and software packages”.
Over the years, he held the positions of teacher of the department of mathematical and computer modeling, head of the educational and methodological laboratory “Computational and Information Technologies”, deputy dean for scientific and innovative activities and international relations of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of KazNU.
From September 2013, he headed the educational and methodological department of the department of academic affairs; from February 2014 to August 2016, he headed the department of academic affairs of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. As part of the modernization of the university’s educational activities, it actively participated in the introduction into the educational process of: experimental educational programs; student-centered approach to providing educational services; new forms of current, final control and examination sessions. In June 2015, he completed advanced training courses “Leadership Foundation for Higher Education – Professional Development Program for Higher Education Leaders of Kazakhstan 2015”.
Scientific research of Khikmetov A. concern the theory of turbulence, mathematical modeling, organization of high-performance computing, information technology and computational mathematics.
Khikmetov A. author of a monograph and over 70 scientific papers on the problems of modeling turbulence and developing information technologies for solving environmental problems.
From 07.2021 to present – Rector of the International Information Technology University (IITU).
