
Dozens of ambassadors have emerged among the faculty’s graduates. One of them is Ongalbayev Ongtalap Serikbayuly, a 1994 graduate of our faculty. Ongalbayev Ongtalap was one of the 53 students admitted in 1989 when the Faculty of Oriental Studies was established. He received education in Oriental Studies with a specialization in history. During the 1992-1993 academic year, he completed an internship in Persian at the International Dehkhoda Center at the University of Tehran in Iran. After successfully graduating in 1994, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since then, he has been actively working in the field of foreign relations. He began his career as a referent. From 2009 to 2011, he served as the head of one of the divisions' the Asia and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. In 2011-2012, he was the Counselor-Minister at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Iran. From 2012 to 2018, he was the Consul General of Kazakhstan in Gorgan (Iran). Between 2019 and 2022, he worked as the Director of the Department of the Near, Middle East, and Africa. From 2022 to 2023, he served as an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and as an Ambassador-at-Large. Since March 26, 2024, he has been the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
